«Some Ditty, a Mountain» wurde ursprünglich für das Gedenkkonzert für San Fadyl (Freund und Schlagzeuger von den Brooklyner Ladybug Transistor) komponiert und hat sich von der 15 minütigen reinen Gitarrenversion zum 30-Minuten-Epos für Gitarre, Stimme und Schlagzeug “Some Ditty, A Mountain II” entwickelt. Mit spärlich eingesetzten Overdubs wurde das Stück in Basel im 1000 Watts Studio von Jari Altermatt (Navel) aufgenommen und von Alex Buess (16-17, God, The Bug, Ice) gemastert.
Die Idee hinter dem Stück war, ein Non-Drone herzustellen. Ein Drone, jedoch mit Rhythmus, der sich wiederum in sich selber auflöst. Ein elfenhafter Chor, Stille und der alles ausfüllende Krach liegen nah beieinander. Dreissig Minuten dauert der Aufbau bis zur Frage: «What if there are no more questions?» («Was, wenn es keine Fragen mehr gibt?»).
Nach dem Crescendo und der Antwort «An avalanche of answers – washing them all away» («Eine Lawine aus Antworten, die alles weg spült») bleibt ein Nichts. Ein leergefegtes Feld. Ein Fragezeichen, oder eine Aufforderung, neues Leben zu säen. Es geht um vergessen und um erinnern.
Obwohl auf einer Seite einer 12″ keine dreissig Minuten Platz haben, wurde hier konsequent aus Gründen der Ästhetik auf Vinyl gesetzt. «Some Ditty, A Mountain II» was originally written for the memorial gig of San Fadyl (friend and drummer of Brooklyn based Ladybug Transistor). This piece of music has evolved from a 15 minute piece solely for guitar to an epical 30 minute track for guitars, vocals and drums. It was recorded, using very little overdubs, in Basel, Switzerland, by Jari Altermatt (Navel) at 1000 Watts Studios and mastered by Alex Buess (16-17, God, The Bug, Ice).
The idea was to create an non-drone. A drone, yet with a rhythm that again dissolves within itsself. A fairy-like choir and the ever multiplying wall of noise lay close by each other. It takes thirty minutes to reach the question: «What if there are no more questions?». After the crescendo and the answer «an avalanche of answers – washing them all away» we are left alone. Nothing. A depleted field. A question mark, or an invitation to sow new life. «Some Ditty, A Mountain II» is about forgetting and remembering.
