In 2018, the post-punk trio Asbest came out of nowhere with their debut album «Driven». With their shoegaze-inspired noise rock and a tendency towards slow tempo and socially critical lyrics, they show a strong live presence and attempt to shake up worldviews.

Thanks to their connections to the LGBTQIA+ movement (people discriminated against by the patriarchy due to their sexual orientation or gender identity) as well as the backgrounds of Robyn Trachsel (vocals, guitar), Judith Breitinger (bass, vocals) and Jonas Häne (drums), the band is able to present a unique perspective on society and on life. They explore topics like gender, identity, and individuation in a highly standardised world.

They condemn the compulsions of modern society – pressure to succeed, self-optimisation, self-exploitation – and explore the question: Is it possible to lead a truly happy existence within a diseased reality without denying oneself or the circumstances? To quote Adorno: Is there a right life in the wrong one?

Asbest are:
Robyn Trachsel: Vocals, Guitar
Judith Breitlinger: Bass, Vocals
Jonas Häne: Drums
